Just 1km from the Retreat is the beautiful little town of Thora. There are many secret swimming holes along the pristine Bellinger River which is perfect for swimming & kayaking – watch out for the platypus which is common in this area. Explore on foot the lush rainforest surroundings, home to many native animals.

Upper Thora

Take the beautiful scenic drive to Upper Thora, where you will find clear running streams, perfect picnic spots and plenty of places to throw in your kayak or cool down in the cool clear water. It's about 20km along Darkwood Road, which begins opposite the Thora General Store, just minutes from the Retreat.
